Anyone who has installed compiz before knows it can be confusing so here, I will focus on installing 0.8.10 using <a title=\"Compiz 0.8.10 Source Packages\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northfield.ws\/projects\/compiz\/releases\/0.8.10\/\" target=\"_blank\">the tarballs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Step 1)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Install Xubuntu 14.10 or your variant of *buntu based Linux distribution with sudo installed.<\/p>\n<p>Step 2)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Open a terminal<\/p>\n<p>Step 3)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Install git<\/p>\n<p>$ sudo apt-get install git<\/p>\n<p>Step 4)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Download the build scripts with<\/p>\n<p>$ git clone git:\/\/northfield.ws\/compiz\/scripts -b release-0.8.10<\/p>\n<p>Step 5)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Run the INSTALL script<\/p>\n<p>$ .\/scripts\/INSTALL<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.northfield.ws\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/terminal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-139\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.northfield.ws\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/terminal-300x210.png\" alt=\"terminal\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.northfield.ws\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/terminal-300x210.png 300w, http:\/\/blog.northfield.ws\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/terminal.png 723w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Step 6)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Start ccsm by typing ccsm in the terminal and verify it runs<\/p>\n<p>$ ccsm<\/p>\n<p>Step 7)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Enable basic plugins such as Window Decoration, Move Window, Place Window, Resize Window and maybe Wobbly so you know it&#8217;s working<\/p>\n<p>Step 8)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Start compiz with<\/p>\n<p>$ compiz &#8211;replace ccp<\/p>\n<p>Step 9)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Open another terminal<\/p>\n<p>Step 10)\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Start a compiz window decorator<\/p>\n<p>$ emerald &#8211;replace<\/p>\n<p>If everything is working, then congratulations! You can add &#8217;emerald&#8217; (without quotes) to ccsm&gt;Effects&gt;Window Decoration&gt;Command field so emerald starts when compiz does.\u00a0 If not, you can ask in #compiz or #northfield on irc.freenode.net using your IRC client or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.compiz.org\">wiki.compiz.org<\/a>. Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>AUDIENCE: This information is targeted toward those familiar with Linux distributions and GNU open source software.<\/p>\n<p>INFORMATION: The compiled runtime executable files and libraries will be installed to \/usr\/ and icons for ccsm can be found in \/usr\/share\/ccsm\/icons\/hicolor\/scalable\/. Emerald includes emerald-theme-manager which can be run from a terminal.
